Wines from the Tejo region of Portugal have found their way onto the dinner tables of the Russians in increasing quantities over the last four years.
It was in 2009 that the Comissão Vitivinicola Regional do Tejo (CVR) realised the potential market in Russia and this month 14 producers from the region are due to present their finest vintages at Prodexpo, one of Russia’s most important fairs in the wine and food sectors.
President of CVR José Pinto Gaspar said the participation is to create more awareness of Tejo wines, and Portuguese wines in general, in the Russian market.
He said the emerging market has been achieved through co-operation between the CVR and the producers and in 2012 there was an increase of 38% in sales to Russia compared to the previous year.
CVR is planning for the third successive year to take part in a major wine fair at the Radisson Royal Hotel in Moscow on May 17.
