Portuguese truckies fined, documents confiscated because of error by IMT

IMT, the Portuguese institute for mobility and transport, has messed up bigtime in issuing truck drivers with digital tacograph cards (absolutely vital throughout Europe for recording hours driven/ speed and distance). The licences are not being recognised in Italy where a number of drivers have been fined, with their cards confiscated. IMT is understood to be ‘trying to fix the problem’, but for truck drivers and employers now, this is a shambles that is costing ‘money’. Companies do not dare operate in Italy for the time being, with many drivers thus ‘in limbo’, unable to work, and in some cases, even to earn money.
