Portuguese Tour

Cycling’s Tour of Portugal headed north from Lisbon last Thursday with a largely domestic peloton.

By Tuesday Spain’s Jose Tonitio had become the first foreign winner after finishing the fourth Lamego-Gouveia stage in front – however, the overall leader’s yellow jersey was retained by LA-Antarte’s Hernani Bruco, with Algarve challengers and multiple past winners Tavira-Pro beginning to give chase.

At the time the Algarve Resident went to press on Wednesday, Ricardo Mestre, Andre Cardoso and Nelson Vitorio were all closing in, in the hope of emulating three-time Tavira winner David Blanco.
