Donations from a “very successful” auction held last September by Associação Obrigado Bombeiros have been used by the Silves and Lagoa fire stations to purchase life-saving equipment and protective clothing for local firefighters.
The €7,300 raised during the event was split equally between both fire stations and enabled the Silves station to buy specialist boots and uniforms, while Lagoa used its share to purchase 52 pairs of specialist boots for its fire crews.
Said the association, “the apparel was urgently needed following the terrible fires last summer in the region”.
Some of the purchases were on display when members of the association visited the fire stations recently.
“We were made to feel very welcome in both stations and given interesting guided tours of the facilities,” said committee member Elaine Evans.
She added, “it was very heartening to see what had been bought with the money we raised, and it has encouraged us to set our sights higher this year. In 2019, we aim to raise €12,000.”
Associação Obrigado Bombeiros is planning an exciting live music event on May 18 at Carvoeiro Tennis Club. More information on this event will be revealed soon.
