Portuguese student missing after falling overboard from cruise ship in Baltic Sea

A 21-year-old Portuguese student is missing after reportedly falling overboard from a cruise ship in the Baltic Sea.

According to reports, Diogo Penalva was on the Silja Serenade cruise in the early hours of November 13 when he allegedly fell from the ship after leaving one of its discos.

Searches were carried out at sea for three hours but were unsuccessful.

The Portuguese government has confirmed it is following the case.

“The father of the Portuguese citizen is receiving support from the Portuguese diplomatic authorities in Helsinki, namely in terms of remaining in contact with Finnish authorities which are investigating this case,” a government source has said.

Diogo Penalva is a student of Finance and Accounting at the ISCTE Business School in Lisbon, but was currently studying at the Tallinn University of Technology in Estonia as part of the Erasmus programme.
