Portuguese sporting legends are subject of talk

Algarve Resident contributor Chris Wright will be giving a talk on ‘Portuguese Sporting Legends’ at the Municipal Library in Tavira on Monday, April 30, from 6pm.

Chris Wright comes from a sporting family and since his retirement to the Algarve, he has continued to follow and write about sport – mostly about football and particularly about SC Olhanense.

Chris is a qualified referee and when he arrived in Portugal he began to support Olhanense and to attract other ex- pats to join the Olhanense supporters club for ex-pats, known as Os Gorilas.

During his association with the Portuguese Premier League club, Chris has made a study of its past and of the individuals involved with the club.

You may not be aware that SC Olhanense once won the first division championship in Portugal or that Luciano, ex-SC Olhanense, tragically lost his life in the massage pool because of an electrical malfunction. The all-time great Eusébio, in the same pool at the same time, was fortunate to survive.

To reserve your place at the talk, organised by the Algarve History Association, please email [email protected]
