Portuguese “spiderman” falls to his death in Madrid

A Portuguese thief known to police as “spiderman” due to his modus operandi of scaling high buildings has fallen to his death from an apartment block in Madrid.
The 39-year-old’s body was found in an interior courtyard by the building’s porter who had heard “a loud thump” as the thief fell from a height of around 15 metres.
As far as police can tell, the man had climbed up to the fourth floor of the building and was attempting to break in through a window.
It is reported that he must have lost his balance and fallen backwards.
The death was widely reported over Spanish TV this week and investigators claim the ‘spiderman’ had a string of offences to his name, including a number of robberies with violence.
The man had been living “for some years” in Spain, and details of his identity were never revealed by the authorities.
