Rabo de Peixe

Portuguese show becomes international hit on Netflix

Rabo de Peixe has been garnering viewers across the world

Rabo de Peixe, a Portuguese thriller which debuted on Netflix on Friday (May 26), has become the sixth most watched show worldwide on the streaming service.

So says Flixpatrol, a website which provides VOD (video-on-demand) charts and streaming ratings.

The Portuguese show trails only Fubar, XO, Kitty, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, El Silencio and Doctor Cha.

According to the website, the Portuguese production entered the daily top 10 on Netflix in 33 countries and is among the top five watched shows in Argentina, Brazil, Croatia, Italy, Luxemburg, Malta and Spain.

The show takes place in the Portuguese archipelago of the Azores and follows the story of “four friends whose lives are changed forever” following the discovery of a large amount of cocaine.

“When a boat full of cocaine sinks off the coast of the island where Eduardo lives, he sees an opportunity to make money that is both exciting and risky,” the show’s synopsis reads.

Produced by Ukbar Filmes, Rabo de Peixe is the second series fully produced in Portugal for Netflix following Glória by Tiago Guedes, which was produced by SPi.

The cast features José Condessa, Helena Caldeira, Rodrigo Tomás, André Leitão, Kelly Bailey, Afonso Pimentel, Pepe Rapazote, Albano Jerónimo, Maria João Bastos, Adriano Carvalho and Salvador Martinha.
