Portuguese scientists have discovered (through a study) that people with diabetes II are much more likely to develop Parkinson’s disease “due to the increase in glycation in the brain, which aggravates, anticipates and even induces typical symptoms of this degenerative disease”. The bottom line is that young people with diabetes II are 400 times more likely to develop Parkinson’s than healthy peers. A result of the study is that the investigators involved are now looking at diabetes II medications and how they are used to control the disease, principally to try and ensure they do not allow glycation in the brain.
