Portuguese researcher murdered in Brazil

A PORTUGUESE researcher, 36-year-old Vanessa Sequeira, has been found murdered in the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil.

Vanessa was in Brazil preparing her PhD thesis about tribes living in the rainforest, when she was raped and murdered by a 36-year-old agricultural worker, now detained in custody in Brazil.

A post mortem examination was carried out in Rio Branco, the capital of the state of Acre, Brazil, before the woman’s body was returned to Lisbon for burial in the cemetery of Sobradinho dos Gaios.

Police Inspector, José Barbosa de Moraes, from Acre police has ordered two similar cases in the nearby Sena Madureira region to be reopened.

Police believe that the suspect in custody for Vanessa Sequeira’s murder, may have been the perpetrator of these two crimes.
