Portuguese referee on top of the world

Pedro Proença, who refereed both the UEFA Champions League Final – Chelsea v. Bayern Munich – and the EURO Championship Final between Spain and Italy in 2012, has been appointed to officiate at the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals in Brazil.
Together with his two assistants, Bertino Miranda and Tiago Trigo, he will also join England’s Howard Webb and colleagues Darren Cann and Mike Mullarkey.
Twenty-five ‘trios’ of officials have been selected from 43 countries with 10 groups coming from Europe. Selection commenced in 2011 with a fully professional and exacting procedure that whittled down the original 52 ‘trios’.
The referees selected for the World Cup in Brazil have been chosen based especially on their personality and their quality in football understanding by being able to read the game and the teams’ tactical approaches towards each game.
