Portuguese pupils travel to China, with maggots, for science contest

Three pupils from the Júlio Dinis secondary school in Ovar will represent Portugal in a science competition in China between August 21-26 with a project on biodegradation of plastics using maggots. Portugal’s Youth Foundation announced today that “Maggots: plague or solution”, which has already won an award at the National Science Exhibition, will represent Portugal at CASTIC – standing for China Adolescents Science and Technology Innovation Contest – taking place (wait for it…) in Wuhan. According to Lusa, the competition will bring together more than 500 Chinese pupils and a hundred international participants…. (No one has mentioned the C- word, nor how the World Health Organisation has been talking recently about ‘variants of interest’…)
