Portuguese people do not eat enough fruit, a bad dietary habit that could lead to health problems such as heart disease and cancer, and is considered more harmful than “smoking or being overweight”.
This is one of the main conclusions of a new health report presented on Tuesday (July 7) by Portugal’s General Health Directory (DGS).
It cites data from 2010, which shows that Portugal lost “141,000 years of life” because people do not eat at least three portions of fruit per day.
