THE ALGARVE Open de Portugal Caixa Geral de Depósitos is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year with another tournament, this time at Le Meridien Penina Golf Resort in Portimão, from March 30 to April 2.
The event, one of the most established on the PGA European Tour, has traditionally brought some of Europe’s best-known golfers to the Algarve to play on one of the region’s top courses. The event has been responsible for launching the careers of many stars, as was the case for Fredrik Jacobson who won the tournament at Vale do Lobo in 2003.
This year’s prize fund is 1.25 million euros and the event is being organised by Amen Corner, a company owned by golfing legend Seve Ballesteros.
Further details will be announced in The Resident as soon as they become available.
