news: Portuguese Open this weekend...

The 49th Portuguese Open, that this year is entitled Estoril Open de Portugal Caixa Geral de Depísitos, will take place this weekend(March 31 – April 3) at Oitavos Golfe, Quinta da Marinha. Players high up in the world ranking are thin on the ground, but the tournament will welcome some of Europe’s big names. Four of this season’s winners are in the field – Stephen Dodd (Wales), Nick Dougherty (England), Niclas Fasth (Sweden) and Charl Schwartzel (South Africa). Former Ryder Cup Captain, Sam Torrance, is also in Portugal to see if he can add a third Portuguese Open title to his 21 European Tour titles. Total prize money is 1.25 million euros. Unfortunately, the tournament clashes with the Players Championship and subsequent Masters in the US – it’s, therefore, hoped the Open will be moved to October in future.
