More Portuguese nurses are working in the UK than ever before, according to data released by the Nursery and Midwifery Council (NMC) recruitment agency.
The NMC says it is easier for Portuguese professionals to enter the nursing labour market in the UK because of the high demand in the sector.
The wages on offer are also said to have led to an increase, being on average two times higher than in Portugal.
Between 2006 and 2008, the NMC registered 69 Portuguese nurses working in the UK.
Public and private health clinics in the UK have been recruiting mainly young and unemployed graduates for almost all medical specialties and also to take care of the elderly.
