Defence minister João Gomes Gravinho has told journalists today that Portuguese military, past and present, are prohibited from leaving Portugal for Ukraine ‘under their own steam’ (ie voluntarily). Quizzed by journalists over the European proposal for governments to increase the financing of weapons being made to Ukraine by another €500 million, he said as far as Portugal’s contribution is concerned, this is a matter still under discussion. The minister also left it to his counterpart in foreign affairs to confirm whether or not there were Portuguese casualties in the Russian bombing of the Yavoriv military base
