Portuguese man “left for dead” by terrifying mob in Ireland

Attack || A Portuguese man was “left for dead” after a 70-strong masked mob attacked his home in Northern Ireland, beating the door down with hammers, golf clubs and swords.
The horror that the unnamed Portuguese national endured was described in a Belfast court. He was beaten unconscious by the mob, stabbed repeatedly and had both his legs broken.
The man later died of his injuries – the most serious of which was a punctured lung – though the Irish authorities claim the attack was not racially-motivated.
The rampage, which took place in Larne, County Antrim, in March, has been blamed on the Ulster Defence Association. According to a BBC report, the Portuguese man’s two daughters were “in another part of the house” at the time of the horrific attack.
As one of the alleged perpetrators now faces charges of attempted murder, intimidation, criminal damage and rioting, this is the first the Portuguese press appears to have heard of the involvement of a Portuguese national in the incident.
