PORTUGUESE TRUCKER Paulo Jorge Nogueira da Silva has been remanded in custody after being accused of causing death by dangerous driving following an accident in the UK on October 20 that killed six members of the same family.
The accident occurred on the M6 between junctions 16 and 17 when the 46 year old truck driver ran into the back of the minivan the Statham family had been travelling in.
David and Michelle Statham and their children Reece, 13, Jay, nine, Mason, 20 months and Ellouise 10 weeks, died after their vehicle caught fire following the collision.
Judge Elgan Edwards ordered the detention of Paulo Silva until a further hearing on January 13 at Chester Crown court to be followed by a trial on February 9, 2009.
The funeral for the family was held in Llandudno, Wales on Tuesday and was attended by more than 350 mourners.
