Portuguese language students embrace local culture

Learning Portuguese is not only about learning the language, it’s also about immersing yourself in the culture and embracing the history of this beautiful country we live in.

Last week, a group of students from Atena Language School in Tunes went on a field trip to Olhão, to learn about the history and culture of this wonderfully interesting city.

They started the tour at the Mercado Municipal, with an oral presentation in Portuguese, about the building’s history and the various products that are sold there.

The cultural experience included a tour of the Legends of Olhão, where the students had to read the information in Portuguese and answer questions about the legends.

On their travels, they also learned all about the Ribeirinha Regeneration Project, the city’s fishing industry and the story behind the renovated chimney that stands in front of the Auditorium. The morning activities were finished off with a lovely lunch at a local restaurant by the waterfront.
