Portuguese kitesurfer breaks his own world record

Portuguese kitesurfer Francisco Lufinha, 31, has made history yet again, having set 874km as the new world record for the longest distance travelled uninterruptedly while kitesurfing.

His odyssey began on Sunday (July 5) in Lisbon and ended on Tuesday in Madeira.

Lufinha’s original plan was to kitesurf all the way to Madeira, but his “extreme fatigue” led him to cut the journey short. The last stretch of his trip was completed by boat, but the distance he travelled on his own allowed him to beat his previous record (564km) by over 300km.
