“Portuguese involved in plan to kill German president”, writes Sol

PJ counter terrorism police swooped on a number of addresses in the Greater Lisbon area last week on the request of counterparts in Germany. German investigators believe an extreme right group with connections to Portugal could be preparing an assassination attempt on Germany’s president Frank Walter Steinmeier. The group, known as NSU 2.0, is understood to have already killed 10 people. Says Sol online, the operation in Portugal took place as German authorities are trying to curb “what they consider to be an increase in the influence of far-right movements, with links to groups and people located in other European countries”.
