Portuguese hotel among Conde Nasté Traveler’s ‘Gold List’

Lisbon’s 15th century Palácio Belmonte has made the 2015 ‘Gold List’ of famous travelling magazine Conde Nasté Traveler, being considered one of the world’s 10 best ‘historic hotels’.

The top-10 has been published online, with the Portuguese hotel in the fifth spot.

“Lisbon’s Palácio Belmonte, the former residence of a noble family dating back to 1449, has sitting rooms like no other. More than 30,000 blue-and-white Portuguese tiles from the 1700s cover the walls, complemented by dreamy fado music,” writes Conde Nasté’s Charissa Fay.

“I felt as if we had the entire palace to ourselves, as though we were breathing in the living history of those walls,” she added.

Palácio Belmonte has already come in second as the most beautiful Suite Hotel in 2009 World Travel Awards, and in 2000 received the Award for Urban Regeneration from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) offered by HRH Prince Charles of Wales.

The palace is also considered a national monument and a building of public interest.
