Tuna fishing in the Algarve has played an important role in the economic and social development of the region.
The extent of the reliance upon tuna fishing in the Algarve, the influences of tuna migration and the relationship between the people of the Algarve and the fishing industry are the topic of one of the latest talks by Peter Booker.
These will be taking place on January 26 at 6.30pm in the Convento de São José in Lagoa, and then on January 29 at 11am at the municipal library in Tavira.
Another talk, about the Jewish population of Portugal and the hardships they endured here from the 15th century, will take place on January 18 from 7pm at the ASCA on Rua do Comunitário in Almancil.
The talk in Tavira is free, however, there is a three euro fee per person at ASCA and a two euro fee at the Convento de São José.
