Portuguese fishermen see quotas increased for mackerel, monkfish, plaice and black scabbard

It’s good news, and bad news all rolled into one. The good being obvious: Portuguese fishermen can fish more. But the bad being that increased quotas will increase their (the fishermen’s) costs, thus the government is reportedly requesting further cash subsidies from Brussels. What has resulted from a ‘marathon of negotiations’ (they began on Sunday, ending today), is that cod too can be fished more than it has been in international waters, reports SIC Notícias, while the capture of sole and crayfish has to be reduced.
