Portuguese firefighters in earthquake-ravaged Turkey bring smiles and giggles to little girl

A heartwarming video of two Portuguese firefighters deployed to Turkey playing with a little girl has been posted online by the Lisbon Regiment of Sapador Firefighters, prompting universal praise.

The firefighters were sent to Turkey to help search and rescue teams seek survivors underneath the rubble of the buildings destroyed by the February 6 earthquake.

The video proves that their work often goes beyond the heartbreaking task of searching for survivors amidst the destruction.

The men can be seen chasing and being chased by the little girl, who, for a few minutes at least, enjoyed some respite from the devastating situation.

Portugal’s search and rescue team departed for Turkey on February 9 and is expected to remain there until at least the end of the month.

The team – which has already been responsible for the rescue of a dog – also includes members of the National Civil Protection and Emergency Authority, INEM and GNR.

The Portuguese rescue team is currently focusing on recovering bodies for waiting relatives, trying to provide a dignified operation.
