In Portugal’s capacity as head of the European Presidency, health minister Marta Temido is leading a virtual meeting of counterparts throughout the bloc today to discuss new variants of the coronavirus, a new approach to testing and the vaccination process ongoing in member states. The meeting comes just as European Commission president Ursula Von der Leyen tweets that the EU is to produce a legislative proposal for a Digital Green Pass, aimed at providing: proof that a person has been vaccinated; results of tests for those who couldn’t get a vaccine yet; info on COVID19 recovery. The pass will “gradually enable” citizens to “move safely in the European Union or abroad – for work or tourism”, said the commission chief.
