The IMTT, the Portuguese driving license authority is taking so long processing driving licence renewals that thousands of people find themselves illegal the minute they drive outside of Portugal.
The temporary license, a flimsy piece of paper given in place of driving licences, which drivers over the age of 50 have to renew, are only valid in Portugal.
Transport unions are up-in-arms, as they say it is making it impossible for people to work.
