Against a backdrop of ‘excess milk and low prices’ throughout Europe, Portugal’s dairy sector is to be given almost €4 million as an incentive to reduce production. A statement from the agriculture ministry has explained the money comes from a €500 million EU package designed to be shared by 28 member states. National dairy farmers will also receive other benefits, to be outlined after discussions with the sector’s “crisis office”.
