Portuguese citizens have gained an average of 5 kgs each since the start of the pandemic. This is the underwhelming news of a study undertaken by Lisbon software company Fixando – pointing to poor eating habits and absence of physical exercise being the principal reasons for this backwards physical slide. The data was from 6,400 people, at least 45% of which admitted to being couch potatoes. 17% however said the pandemic had powered a ‘get fit’ drive in which they had lost weight – an average in this class of 6kgs. As to the demand for nutritionist advice, this has fallen by a massive 191% – blamed on the fact that people now do not have enough money to consider paying for professional help to correct poor eating habits.
