A Portuguese truck driver has died after being brutally attacked following a 5000-euro cash win at a Spanish casino.
Forty-four-year old José Manuel Fernandes was delighted by his win, at the Casino Latino in Zaragoza.
Closed circuit television showed him buying drinks for at least three other men before leaving the casino with a fellow Portuguese driver to return to his truck.
But before either reached their destination, they were approached by four men wearing hoodies and carrying baseball bats.
The men proceeded to “brutally attack” the two Portuguese, robbing Fernandes of all his winnings.
According to Correio da Manhã, the father-of-three was beaten senseless, while his colleague – named only as António – managed to run for help.
Fernandes fought for his life for two days before dying in hospital.
At time of writing, CM said António remained in hospital with serious injuries.
Spain’s Guardia Civil is reported to be investigating.
