UK newspaper The Telegraph has included Livraria Lello (Porto) and Livraria Ler Devagar (Lisbon) in a list of the world’s most beautiful bookshops.
Lello is ranked number one and described as a favourite of Harry Potter author JK Rowling, who used to teach in the city. The bookstore dates back to 1869, and is today one of Porto’s main calling cards, attracting visitors from all over the world.
Ler Devagar is placed 15th. Located in a former printing factory, it is considered by the newspaper to be the city’s “best bookstore”.
“Look out for the antique printing machines and the flying bicycle that hangs from the ceiling,” the paper says.
The ranking was published online today to “mark Libraries Week”
