Portuguese are returning to Venezuela, says secretary of state

Paul Cafôfo, former mayor of Funchal, Madeira, recently made secretary of State for Portuguese communities abroad, has been visiting Venezuela this week where, he says, many Portuguese nationals and their descendants who in recent years left Venezuela due to the political, economic and social crisis are now returning to the country. “It is a community that has grown, despite the crisis of recent years and that many have returned to Portugal (…) Now, the opposite is true. On returning to Venezuela there is an effective and visible will that is happening,” he said – stressing Portugal’s next step must be in ensuring consular services give emigrés the services they require.
