Portugal’s virus situation continues to fill hospitals

Sunday’s virus tally shows another 19 people have died from serious complications of infection by Covid-19 in the last 24-hours.

Another 2,577 positive cases have been confirmed.

Hospitals are now dealing with increasingly more Covid patients. There have been 119 new admissions in the last 24-hours. There are now 230 patients in ICUs.

Recoveries from the virus continue, with another 1,035 recovered since yesterday.

But the overall picture is one of a country where a number of areas continue to have increasing transmission.

The north remains the area with most cases (1,696 new cases reported just in the last 24-hours), followed by Lisbon/ Vale do Tejo (492 new infections), the Centre (+290), the Alentejo (+44) and Algarve (+42).

The autonomous regions of Madeira and Azores continue to show much ‘better numbers’: just 11 new cases in the former, two in the latter.

The deaths for this latest bulletin came in the north (10), Lisbon/ Vale do Tejo (8) and the Alentejo (1).
