Portugal’s unemployment rate increased 0.4 percentages points in May after three months of recovery, now representing 13.2% of the working age population.
In practical terms, it means that over 676,000 people are unemployed in Portugal. The provisional data is revealed by the National Statistics Institute (INE).
Youth unemployment is also up, having increased from 31.7% in April to 33.3% in May.
In May last year, unemployment stood at 14.4% while youngsters represented 36.5% of those without jobs.
