Portugal’s unemployment figures rise for second consecutive month

Portugal’s unemployment figures rose for the second consecutive month in November and are now back nudging 14%.

It is a bitter pill for the government which, until September last year, were able to record falls in unemployment for 20 straight months.

November’s figure of 13.9% is likely to rise again before the spring.

The figures from national statistics institute INE show youth unemployment is now at 34.5%.
