Portugal’s signature ‘pera rocha’ harvest looks like a washout

The drought and high temperatures have meant that this year’s harvest of Portugal’s signature pears, pera rocha, is expected to be the worst ‘since records began’. Production has fallen by more than 50%, and the sector admits prices will almost certainly increase. The majority of pera rocha producers can be found between Mafra and Leiria. Harvesting is due to start this week, and arrive at consumers next week.
