Portugal’s retail trade grows 2.3%

More news of growth has come Portugal’s way as the European Union’s statistical office Eurostat reveals that the country’s volume of retail trade increased 2.3% in August compared to July.
This follows a 2.4% rise in July compared to June and was one of the biggest increases in the EU, beaten only by economic superpowers Germany and Luxembourg (2.5%).
Further data shows that while retail trade increased 1.2% in the eurozone, in the EU it went up by 1.4% – both mostly due to increases in the purchase of fuel, food, drinks and tobacco as well as products of the “non-food sector”.
Compared to last year, retail trade increased 1.9% in the eurozone and 2.5% in the European Union, while in Portugal the boost was of 1.2%.
