NOVEMBER 19 saw “Million Dollar Hole-in-One” have its first hole-in-one winner in the Algarve, with Colin Mocock achieving this at Parque da Floresta Golf and Leisure resort.
Colin Mocock from Marlborough in Wiltshire, UK, achieved the terrific feat at the short yet tricky par three, fifth hole. The 20-handicapper made his first ever ace after taking up the “Million Dollar Hole-in-One” challenge while on a short break from the UK. His playing and business partner, Kevin Fox, along with Million Dollar operator Gaby witnessed the shot “holing-out” in a week when the eyes of the golfing world were on the Algarve for the World Cup in Vilamoura.
Colin has won himself an all-inclusive trip to Las Vegas next November, staying at the exclusive Treasure Island Hotel for two days. An exciting itinerary of events in Las Vegas includes a round at the Revere at Anthem Golf Club, where Colin has the chance to win the one million dollars. As Kevin witnessed the hole in one, Colin has also invited him to go to Las Vegas to enjoy the experience of a lifetime. In addition to the big money up for grabs, there are other prizes including US Masters and British Open tickets.
Alan Hodson, golf director at Parque da Floresta, was pleased that Parque da Floresta was the venue for Portugal’s first success. The “Million Dollar Hole-in-One” challenge began its life in the US over 13 years ago and has since spread to Europe, starting off in Spain five years ago and arriving in the Algarve in March 2004. Although a profit-making enterprise, the company does pride itself on its support of various local charities, such as the orphanage in Lagos.
Do you think you have what it takes to join Colin in Las Vegas next year? You have until the end of June 2006 to qualify for next year’s event. The challenge can be entered at any of these golf courses: Alto Golf & Country Club, Balaia Golf Village, Benamor Golf Club, Palmares Golf Club, Parque da Floresta Golf & Leisure Resort, Quinta da Ria Golf Club and Quinta de Cima Golf Club.
