Father Tiago Varanda has become the first priest in Portugal to be ordained ‘already blind’.
Texts suggest there are already blind priests at work in the country but they may not have been blind when they started. Father Varanda however has been blind since he was 16.
He took Holy Orders at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Sameiro in Braga before celebrating mass in Cova da Iria.
