Portugal’s cars among the oldest in Europe

Despite all the ‘good news’ about car sales at last increasing, the truth is that Portugal’s

‘fleet’ is one of the oldest in Europe with the average age of passenger vehicles in the region of 12 years old. According to Hélder Pedro of the ACAP automobile association, the average age of vehicles being sold for scrap is even higher, “more like 20 years old”, he told Diário Económico.

The situation is a retrograde step when one considers data for the turn of the millennium, when the average age for passenger vehicles in Portugal was only seven years.
