Portugal’s 7 Sweet Wonders to be chosen in 2019

Portugal will be hosting a competition to select the country’s seven best sweets in 2019. Entitled ‘Portugal’s 7 Sweet Wonders’, the competition will be accepting applications until March 7.

There will be 20 daytime shows aired by RTP to elect the best sweets of the country in seven categories, from best pastry to best fruit and honey sweet.

Each of Portugal’s 18 districts – as well as the Madeira and Azores archipelagos – will vote for a sweet to represent them in the semi-finals of the competition.

After the 20 finalists are picked, a “grand jury” will select eight sweets that didn’t make the cut but that they want to see vie for a spot in the grand finale.

The semi-finals will be aired on August 24 and 31 while the grand finale is scheduled for September 7.

Luis Segadães, president of the 7 Maravilhas competition, says that traditional sweets will be valued just as much as new creations.

Like the ‘7 Gastronomic Wonders’ competition that was held last year, it will be the public who will vote for the country’s best sweets.
