Portugal without excess mortality for first time in eight months

New data released by INE (statistics institute) shows that deaths in Portugal since February 22 are ‘back to normal patterns’. This is the first time in eight months that numbers have returned to ‘the average for recent years’. Since the start of the pandemic, there have only been four weeks in which mortality remained ‘below average’: two of the weeks were in August last year, and now the two registered since February 22 to March 7.
