Defence minister Helena Carreiras has said that Portugal will be “very quickly” ratifying the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO. By “very quickly” she is understood to mean the process will be concluded next month. Ms Carreiras was talking to journalists in Prague, where she was attending an informal meeting today of European defence ministers. More than 20 of NATO’s 30 members have already pipped Portugal to the post by ratifying accession – the latest being the United States.
