A goal in the last minute from Martinez gave Chile a somewhat fortunate victory over Portugal in the first match of the 2009 Toulon Tournament.
After dominating the match and hitting the woodwork three times, Portugal were undone by a late strike, with Rui Patricio at fault for letting in the winning goal.
In the 55th minute Olhanense starlet Ukra came close to giving Portugal the lead as his shot bounced off the post and Rui Caçador’s team were left cursing their luck again in the 68th minute as Candeias hit another effort onto the woodwork.
Olhanense’s other representative, Castro, earned the Man-of-the-Match award.
A defeat at the hands of hosts France in the second round of matches 0-1, means that the Portuguese youngsters have failed to qualify for the final stages.
