Portugal is one of the countries willing to train Ukrainian pilots in the use of F-16 fighter jets, following the decision by NATO allies to start making these available for the country invaded by Russia 15 months ago. As television commentator and expert in military affairs Nuno Rogeiro explained in his regular Sunday slot on SIC Notícias, Portugal has trained Romanian pilots in the use of F-16s in the past. “We have very good pilots and trainers”, minister for foreign affairs echoed today. But Portugal cannot supply Ukraine with F-16s, for the simple reason that all the aircraft the country has are required to fulfill national obligations and those with NATO.
