Portugal to send military equipment to Ukraine, tweets defence ministry

Portugal will be sending military equipment to Ukraine. A short tweet from the defence ministry just before midnight last night announced: “On request of Ukrainian authorities, Portugal will be making available military equipment like bullet-proof jackets, helmets, night-vision goggles, grenades, munitions of different calibre, complete portable radios, analog repeaters and G3 automatic rifles”. Other EU Member States, namely Belgium, the Netherlands, France and the Czech Republic have also announced they will be sending weapons and fuel to Ukrainian forces. Berlin has announced its military aid will be dispatched “as quickly as possible”, and include a thousand rocket launchers and 500 earth-to-air Stinger missiles. Early this morning reports by CNN Portugal suggest that Russian troops are already ‘entering cities’ in Ukraine.
