Japanese car company Nissan is considering basing the production of their latest model in Portugal.
The Nissan Leaf, marketed as the world´s first electric car with zero emissions, was due to be built in Sunderland in the UK.
However, reports say Nissan is now looking at Portugal as a possible alternative.
Nissan already has factories in the UK, Japan and USA and, on its official website, states that there is a real possibility of a new factory opening elsewhere.
The final decision as to where the Nissan Leaf will be manufactured is expected to be made by mid 2010.
