Portugal photograph shortlisted in major National Geographic

An unusual form of transport captured by the lens of professional photographer and Algarve Resident contributor John Oliver has been shortlisted in a major National Geographic photo contest on sustainability.

The photograph, Heading from Home, features a Ford Fiesta converted to a carriage pulled by a piebald pony taken at Praia de Burrinho near Porto Covo, in the Alentejo. John Oliver’s photograph has been selected for the public voting round in the Solutions category of the contest.

Nearly 3,000 photographs from around the world were submitted and the National Geographic website is now presenting the official selection of finalists in each category.

The public is asked to cast its vote daily until October 31, with the winners and runners-up in each category announced in mid-November.
