Portugal on weather alert as cold snap approaches

Rain, high winds and rough seas have placed a large part of Portugal under orange alert again today (January 4) as a cold snap approaches.

Most of the bad weather is expected in central and northern districts, 12 of which are under Portugal’s second most serious weather alert.

The Algarve, Beja and Setúbal are on yellow alert, while only the Alentejo districts of Santarém, Portalegre and Évora are free of bad weather warnings.

Temperatures however are set to drop, meteorologist Madalena Rodrigues has told Lusa news agency, with an average for this week forecast at a chillingly low 4ºC.
